The thought of the terrorizing activities of rodents in homes can be very overbearing, annoying and bothersome. If the rodents were only destructive in nature, then may be a way to accommodate them in homes may be put into due consideration, but that is never the case as these rodents also poses to be a threat to the health of man. In this case, it becomes very pertinent to find a means to get rid of captured rodents without having to subject the rodent to torture, for of course they are living things too and they equally feel pain. I have in this article made a move to enlighten you on the ways by which you can take the life of that pesky rodent without putting it through agony or horrible death. Therefore, some of the humane ways by which a rodent should be killed includes:
Relocating to a New Environment
This may sound unbelievable but this is like giving the rodent a merciful death. A rodent once removed from its original setting and environment will find it very difficult to adapt or survive, they can only try and survive for few days before they finally die. This method is for people who are too emotional and cannot stand hitting the rodent to death, or even watching it die. This method only involves capturing the rodent alive, then clean up its path and habitat in the home (to avoid it locating the place once taken away), then finally take it away to a new habitat. A rodent can at most survive 48 hrs outside its original dwelling.
Using Asphyxiation by CO2
This can be regarded as the most humane method by which a rodent can be killed. This method gives the rodent the most painless death as the rodent is made to die by depriving it oxygen and then preventing it from breathing. This is achieved using common household materials baking soda and vinegar, the mixing of these two materials generates gas that will asphyxiate the rodent. To do this, get a plastic container that is preferably transparent and air tight when closed, put the rodent inside and close, then mix the baking soda with the vinegar, this emits the carbon dioxide needed for the asphyxiation. After this, connect a hose from the mixture to the container making sure there are no leaks, after a few moments the rodent will lose consciousness from lack of oxygen; the next is death which is practically painless.
Using Spring Traps
This method is common and very easy to use. The spring trap will effectively kill a rodent since it kills quickly. To use this method, get a spring trap, and make sure it is sturdy enough to cause instant death that will not cause pain to the rodent. Set the trap along the paths of the rodent or a place where the rodent is expected to access, put a fresh bait in the trap and come back regularly to check the trap. Once the rodent is caught and killed, dispose off immediately and stay safe.
